Husband died ‘heartbroken’
“My uncle went to bring flowers to my aunt Irma, his wife. When he came back, he sat down at the kitchen table with his whole family – and after three minutes he just fell over,” John Martinez, the couple’s cousin, told US media. The alarmed rescue could no longer help Garcia. cousin explained that his uncle was grieving after his wife’s death “I’m really in shock.”

On a donation page, Irma’s cousin Debra Austin also wrote, “I do believe Joe died of a broken heart and it was too hard to lose the love of his life after more than 30 years.”

Died with students in her arms
According to the nephew, the couple leaves behind four children, ages 13, 15, 19 and 23. Joe and Irma Garcia are said to have been a couple since high school. Irma taught at Robb primary school for 23 years and was even named “Teacher of the Year” there.

She died with three children in her arms while trying to protect them, John Martinez said after the school massacre: “It wasn’t just her students. She lost her life protecting them. That was the type of person she was. ”

Did the police act too hesitantly?
Lately, there have been more and more critical voices from parents in Uvalde. They blame the police for being too hesitant. “I myself told one of the officers that if they don’t want to go in, they should lend me his gun and a vest, then I’ll go in and fix it myself,” Victor Luna told CNN. His son Jayden survived the massacre. The police were doing their job, Luna said. But she could have done it faster. Other parents made similar comments in US media.

An 18-year-old shot and killed 19 children and two teachers with an assault rifle at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde on Tuesday. He was eventually shot and killed by police officers. The attacker’s motive is still unclear.

The school shooting in the US, which has claimed the highest death toll in a decade, has sparked outrage across the country and sparked renewed debate over the country’s lax gun laws. Recently, questions have also been raised as to whether the police could not have intervened more quickly. The attacker may have been in the schoolhouse for more than 40 minutes before being shot and killed by police officers.
