A week after the devastating terrorist attack on the Crocus city hall near Moscow, the Russian secret service FSB said it had been able to prevent another attack in the country.
The domestic secret service FSB announced on Friday evening that three suspected perpetrators from a “Central Asian country” had been arrested. The suspects wanted to detonate an explosive in a public place in the Stavropol region.
The FSB “put an end to the terrorist activities of three citizens of a Central Asian country,” said the intelligence service’s statement, distributed by Russian news agencies. This happened exactly a week after an attack on a concert hall near Moscow. More than 140 people were killed.
The worst attack in twenty years
It was the worst attack in Russia in the past twenty years. Immediately afterwards, the Islamic State (IS) jihadist militia claimed responsibility for the crime. This is considered credible by Western intelligence services. Nevertheless, Russian authorities and services spread the version that the attackers had ties to Ukraine – without providing any evidence.
