The 27-year-old woman from Innviertel who threatened to suffocate due to a heating defect is on the mend. She was saved at the last minute by her friend and was now successfully treated in Graz.
Good news comes from the University Hospital in Graz, where a 27-year-old woman from Innviertel is being treated after carbon monoxide poisoning. “The patient is stable and recovering,” said the clinic, which is using pressurized chamber treatment to squeeze the toxic gas from the young Aspacher woman’s blood. She has already been ‘immersed’ twice, i.e. brought to depth in the pressure chamber – and the treatment is having a positive effect. The 27-year-old is still in intensive care, but will soon be fit again.
Friend found unconscious person
And she will be able to hug her friend and savior. She owes her life to the 26-year-old. Luckily he wasn’t with her that evening, otherwise the gas boiler malfunction would probably have claimed two lives. On the night of Epiphany, a connection piece in the gas boiler leaked and poisonous carbon monoxide (see information box on the left) spread throughout the house. The 27-year-old inhaled the CO in her sleep and did not realize her life was in immediate danger; she wouldn’t have woken up from the nightmare on her own.
Paramedics noticed gas
The friend found her motionless in bed at 6:40 a.m. and raised the alarm. Two paramedics came to treat the patient when suddenly the CO alarm, which all paramedics wear on their uniforms, went off. The unconscious woman was quickly brought outside and the helpers and the friend also reached safety.
With the rescue to Graz
Due to the bad weather, a Red Cross ambulance in intensive care took the unconscious woman to the hospital in Graz, where the nearest free-pressure room was. The ambulance crew and the friend were treated at Ried Hospital as a precaution; fortunately they had only inhaled a small amount of carbon monoxide.
