A snowmobile accident occurred in the Tyrolean municipality of Strengen on Sunday. A mountain rescuer (57) was riding a skidoo on a snow-covered forest path and fell over the dike through an icy patch. The snowmobile eventually became stuck in a tree. The man had to be freed by the fire brigade.
Late on Sunday morning, the 57-year-old resident rode his snowmobile uphill on the snow-covered forest path in Strengen to perform various duties at a mountain rescue hut. But that shouldn’t happen.
The icy spot was fatal
About 200 meters below the hut, the Tyrolean overlooked an icy spot due to the snow cover, let his sled slide off the path and eventually 15 meters down the dike. “Eventually the sled got stuck on a tree,” police said.
Take an emergency helicopter to the hospital
The man’s leg became wedged between the snowmobile and another tree, preventing him from freeing himself from his predicament. Only the Flirsch fire brigade was alerted and was able to free the victim from the emergency situation with hydraulic equipment.
The 57-year-old was flown to hospital by emergency helicopter. He was able to leave the same day. He probably survived the accident unscathed.
