Apparently, for an unknown reason, the vehicle left the road and struck the curb, causing the truck to catch fire.
A truck driver has died this morning after the petrol-laden tanker truck he was driving on the N-644 near Santurtzi. Apparently the vehicle left the road for unknown reasons collided with the biondacausing the truck to catch fire.
Access Port of Santurtzi has been down that road cut off to traffic as a result of the fire.
According to sources from the Basque Ministry of Security, the event took place around 8:50 am, near the Mamariga tunnels that provide access to the port facilities.
The Ertzaintza has initiated the corresponding investigation to clarify the circumstances under which the fatal accident occurred.
