With a long sword, a 20-year-old man attacked a group of pedestrians in the early hours of Friday morning in the market square of Waren in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Witnesses say at least one person was injured and other possible victims are being sought.
The police in Neubrandenburg were alerted around 4.25 am. The 20-year-old allegedly attacked a group of people. When officers arrived, the suspect was lying on the ground. He was being held by his brother – who had also called 911 – and two other witnesses.
The attacker’s victims had already left the crime scene. One of those involved is said to have been injured in the sword attack on the hand.
Mental Emergency
According to the information, the young man was in a state of mental emergency. In addition, he was heavily drunk, an alcohol test showed a value of 2.19 per mille.
During a subsequent search of the man’s home, the police found a long sword and eight knives. He is now under investigation on suspicion of dangerous bodily harm and gun violations. A search is also underway for possible injured persons and other witnesses.
