Dozens of people have now been identified following a meeting of neo-fascist activists in Rome. According to Italian media, there were five participants. It’s about the ‘glorification of fascism’.
This is prohibited by the Italian Constitution. Video footage from last Sunday’s rally is currently being evaluated. As reported, hundreds of people at the event raised their right arms and gave the Hitler salute. Although it is also banned in Italy, the gesture is performed again and again at meetings of neo-fascists.
“The police will report to the judiciary and in a democratic state the judiciary makes its own decisions,” Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi said. What happened during the demonstration in Rome caused outrage. However, a ban on demonstrations is “counterproductive”, according to the independent politician.

Opposition leader calls for dissolution
Meanwhile, opposition leader Elly Schlein even called for the dissolution of neofascist parties. The Social Democrat argued that the glorification of fascism was prohibited by the constitution in Italy.
The photos of the event are now also embarrassing Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. The 46-year-old is rooted in the right-wing extremist scene. At the age of 15, she joined the youth movement of the neo-fascist MSI and later gained political experience with the successor party Alleanza Nazionale. Their current ruling party, Fratelli d’Italia (Brothers of Italy), also follows the tradition of the MSI.
As reported, hundreds of people gathered in Rome on Sunday on the anniversary of the Acca Larentia murders. Left-wing terrorists shot two young neo-fascists in Via Acca Larentia on January 7, 1979, and a third later died. Since then, commemorations have taken place annually in front of the former headquarters of the neo-fascist Movimento Sociale Italiano (MSI).
