Villa deal – where have the Abramovich files disappeared?

Date:

A staggering purchase, countless question marks! Much is still unclear about the properties of Russian billionaire Roman Abramowitsch on the shores of Lake Fuschl. The State Councilor of Salzburg, Martin Zauner (FPÖ), has now even admitted that the law in question has disappeared from the state government’s archives, the ‘Krone’ reports. The documents may have been accidentally thrown away.

This answer is not enough for the Greens. They demand an extensive investigation into the cause. Through an urgent request, they want answers from the state government to the following questions: When and why were the documents destroyed? Why are these not available digitally? What security systems couldn’t make the whole act go away? “It cannot be the case that Salzburg degenerates into an oligarch’s paradise and that illegal real estate transactions remain without consequences,” complains Simon Heilig-Hofbauer, spatial planning spokesperson for the Green Party.

As reported, the Abramowitsch estate in Fuschl includes a three-part villa with two hectares of forest and almost 6,600 square meters of agricultural land. The ‘Cyprus Confidential’ research project showed last November that the property came into the possession of the Abramovich family through a shell company and a British trustee.
