On December 27, a waste container burned down in the Steyregg asylum center (Upper Austria), and firefighters were reportedly harassed by refugees while extinguishing the fire. That is why there was a crisis summit on Thursday about the future of the accommodation. The city recently wanted a closure, but it ultimately turned out to be a cutback.
Steyregger Mayor Gerhard Hintringer (SPÖ) and Andreas Achrainer of the Federal Healthcare Agency (BBU) were “satisfied” after the crisis summit on the future of the Steyregger asylum seeker center.
Firefighters harassed
In December there were a number of false fire alarms and a container fire. During the extinguishing work, the underage refugees allegedly harassed firefighters, which ultimately led to a safety stop.
Fewer refugees
This has produced the following results: The number of refugees received will be further reduced, from the current 80 to 60. In addition, the support staff will be expanded. Representatives of the community, police, fire brigade and BBU agree on this.
Only the evening before the crisis summit did police officers go to the asylum accommodation again because several residents had fought.
