Drama on the railway: man (80) and dog killed by train while walking

An 80-year-old Upper Austrian walked his four-legged friend on the rails in Krenglbach near Wels. The driver of an ICE train coming from Passau was unable to stop in time. The owner and the dog were hit by the passenger train. Unfortunately, the rescuers who were called were no longer able to help.

A terrible accident took place in the municipality of Krenglbach (Wels-Land district) on Thursday morning. There, a hiker and his dog were hit by a passenger train around 11 a.m. Unfortunately, neither the man nor his four-legged friend could be saved. Both died at the scene of the accident.

Shortcut taken
The pedestrian is said to be an 80-year-old local resident. The accident happened after Haiding train station in the city of Schmiding. While walking the dog, the pensioner probably took a shorter route over the railway instead of following the regular walking path via an underpass.

Had a shock
The driver of the ICE arriving from Passau was unable to stop. The man and the dog were hit with full force and thrown several meters through the air. Neither survived the force of the impact. Rescue, an emergency doctor and a veterinarian were called to the scene of the accident, but unfortunately could no longer help. The driver suffered a shock and had to receive psychological care.
