The country, which has a strict zero-tolerance policy on the coronavirus, is experiencing a spate of outbreaks attributed to the ommicron variant causing record numbers of infections.
The National Health Commission of China announced on Tuesday that the death from covid of 52 people in the eastern metropolis of Shanghai, bringing the total number of people who have died since the start of the epidemic in the country to 4,828.
The city has a total of 190 deaths since the beginning of the incarceration more than a month ago after a sharp increase in the number of cases.
China, which applies to strict “zero tolerance” policy towards the new coronavirus, is going through a wave of regrowth attributed to the ommicron variant that is the cause: record number of infections that have not been seen since the start of the pandemic in the first half of 2020.
For example, the Commission reported today: 1923 new positive cases of the coronavirus detected the day before, 1908 of them by local contamination and the rest, imported.
The places with the highest number of community transmission cases are: Shanghai (east, 1661), Jiangxi (southeast, 91), Jilin (northeast, 44), Beijing (north, 32) and Liaoning (northeast, 25).
The total number of infections in mainland China is currently 28,726, 341 of them in serious condition.
