Neighbors noticed that the little toy poodle puppy kept whining on the balcony of the apartment in Simmering. At the beginning of this week they alerted the police, who in turn consulted the vet. An official veterinarian then went to the apartment early this week to get her own view of the situation.
In the meantime, the police have reached the owner of the dog. Incredibly, she callously told officers she didn’t know when she would be home. Police and fire brigade then opened the apartment. By then the animal’s scream had become worryingly quiet.
The water in the bowl was frozen
The emergency services found the bundle on the balcony, which was only two square meters in size. At that time, the outside temperature was minus 7.5 degrees and the water in the bowl was already frozen.
Meanwhile, the owner of the four-month-old puppy arrived. She reported that she had illegally imported the dog from Serbia a few days earlier.

The 1.5 kilogram dog was immediately taken from the woman and taken to the border veterinarian. “His condition was okay at that time. Fortunately,” official veterinarian Susanne Drechsler told krone.at. The puppy is not allowed to stay in Austria for animal health reasons. He must be sent back to Serbia.
The owner risks a fine of 7,500 euros
The owner is now facing animal cruelty charges and fines of up to €7,500. Because the dog has been illegally smuggled into the EU, it must be declared to customs. The owner must therefore also expect a hefty fine for the customs violation.
