Texas police on Friday acknowledged that it was a mistake not to enter the classroom earlier and forcibly in which the attacker from the school where they were murdered was located. 19 students and two teachers last tuesday, where the cops went an hour to access

In a news conference, the director of the Texas Department of Public Safety said, Steve McCrawhas admitted not breaking the door and waiting for the beadle to arrive with the key was a “wrong decision” and blames the senior police officer who was at the school at the time.

According to McCraw, after hearing multiple gunshots in the classroom and that these only went to the door when the officers tried to gain entry, that chief interpreted that no one was alive except the aggressor.

This interpretation led him to decide to change the protocol from “active attacker” to “barricaded suspect”so instead of breaking open the door and breaking in, and exposing his agents to the assailant’s gunfire, he chose to wait for the key and reinforcements with the appropriate gear.

“(The Police Chief) felt that there was time and no more children were in danger. It was clear there were and the attacker was still active. It was the wrong decision and there is no valid excuse,” acknowledged McCraw.

The 21 dead of the shooting were in the same classroom, but when the police finally got access, they also had found alive in her children

Even from the classroom, warning calls were made to the police by some students.

During the hour when the police waited for reinforcements and made no attempt to forcibly enter the classroom, there were 19 officers in the school

After entering the classroom Salvador Ramos -as the aggressor has been identified- the door closed from the inside and fired indiscriminately at the students and teachers.

Police action is the subject of numerous and angry critics by families and the general public on social networks and the media, as the security forces could have acted more quickly.
