Five people were injured in a chemical fire in a production hall in Altenmarkt near St. Gallen in Upper Styria on Saturday. A 36-year-old worker was even flown to hospital by rescue helicopter with serious injuries.
On Saturday around lunchtime there was a chemical fire in a company on the Altenmarkt near St. Gallen (Liezen district). According to police, hot magnesium leaked from a machine used to process injection molded parts. A chemical reaction probably caused the machine to catch fire.
Employee is in intensive care
A 36-year-old worker was standing right next to the machine at the time and suffered serious respiratory injuries. The man was flown by rescue helicopter to the LKH Leoben, where he is in intensive care, according to the police.
Four other employees suffered respiratory injuries from flue gases. The fire brigade quickly brought the fire under control. Further investigation is now underway into the cause of the fire.
