Traditional costume icon Gexi Tostmann and Rössl landlady Gudrun Peter, musician Fred Jaklitsch, James Bond villain Klaus-Maria Brandauer and journalist Christian Rainer – they all love the Salzkammergut, once the emperor’s treasury. The region is the ‘European Capital of Culture’ for a year, which excites (or delights) even prominent locals. Gexi Tostmann says in part 4 of our series: “The director is having a hard time.”
“I was almost born on the lake, in a fourth-generation family that lives and works on Lake Attersee. Many artists such as Emilie Flöge and Gustav Klimt were guests here – and they were also friends of my family. “That certainly influenced me,” says costume lady Gexi Tostmann from Seewalchen enthusiastically. “We in the Salzkammergut understand self-presentation, including clothing and a certain distance from the authorities. I stand by that!”
