The suspicion is serious: after a car accident on Saturday evening in the Tyrolean lowlands, the 29-year-old driver is now the focus of an investigation on suspicion of attempted murder. Investigators say the suspect may have tried to kill his brother and himself. The local man is now in custody.
The 29-year-old local man and his brother (36) as a passenger were driving on the A12 Inntalautobahn from Kufstein towards Innsbruck on Saturday night around 1.45 am when the suspected accident occurred.
“For reasons that are still unclear, the driver of the car skidded on the road in the area of Kramsach/Münster and eventually came to a stop after the ditch in the dike area next to the highway,” the police reported this weekend. Both men were injured; the driver was drunk at the time of the accident.
Leave the road at 100 km/h
Then on Monday the bang. As the police explained, in the course of the investigation the suspicion arose: “that the traffic accident may have been deliberately caused by the 29-year-old driver.” The suspect may have tried ““To kill his brother and himself by deliberately steering his car to the right on the Inntal Autobahn at a speed of at least 100 km/h, causing the car to go over the edge of the road and ultimately crash into a group of trees.”
Lenker (29) taken to prison
The Innsbruck Public Prosecutor started an investigation against the driver on suspicion of attempted murder. After being interrogated by officials from the Tyrolean State Police, the suspect was transferred to Innsbruck prison on Sunday by order of the judiciary.
Both the suspect and his brother suffered minor injuries in the accident. The vehicle was a total loss.
