Death by rocket attack – Iran claims to have destroyed Mossad headquarters in Iraq

Date:

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard attacked targets in northern Iraq with missiles on Tuesday evening. A spy center of the Israeli secret service Mossad was destroyed. According to the mullahs’ regime’s henchmen, there were also attacks in Syria that were carried out in retaliation.

The Islamic State (IS) terrorist militia was “located in the occupied territories of Syria and was destroyed by the firing of a series of ballistic missiles,” the Revolutionary Guard said. This was in retaliation for the recent terrorist attacks in Iran. It was initially unclear exactly which targets Iran was attacking.

Explosions rocked Erbil
Almost simultaneously, several loud explosions shook the northern Iraqi city of Erbil shortly before midnight. According to eyewitnesses, several rockets hit near a new US consulate under construction. The international airport in the Kurdish city was also hit as panic spread across the metropolis. Rockets fell on farms north of Erbil and hit houses. Four civilians were killed, according to reports from the northern Iraqi city.

‘Avenge the blood of the martyrs’
A short time later, the Revolutionary Guards also claimed responsibility for the rocket attacks on Erbil. “We assure our beloved people that the offensive operations of the Revolutionary Guards will continue until the last drop of martyrs’ blood is avenged,” the organization said in a statement.

According to Iran’s Irna news agency, the attack on northern Syria was the country’s most far-reaching missile operation to date, reaching a range of more than 1,200 kilometers. This should also be a clear signal to arch-enemy Israel. It would be about the same distance that rockets from the west of the country would need to reach Tel Aviv or Jerusalem.

“False pretenses”
Meanwhile, the Security Council of the Kurdish Autonomous Regions described the Iranian Revolutionary Guards’ justifications for the attack in Erbil as mere pretexts. The attack was a violation of the sovereignty of the region and Iraq, the ministry said in a statement on Tuesday evening. Erbil is “not a source of threat” and will not be in the future, “but the Guard forces are using false pretexts to undermine the stability of the country.”

Iraqi Kurdish leader Massoud Barzani condemned the “cowardly attack on the people of the Kurdistan Region in the strongest terms” on Platform

The US condemns the attack in Iraq
The US also came in sharp criticism of the Iranian missile attack on Erbil. “The United States strongly condemns the attacks on Erbil and extends its condolences to the families of those killed,” the US State Department said. “We oppose Iran’s reckless missile attacks, which undermine stability in Iraq. We support the Iraqi government and the Kurdish Regional Government in their efforts to achieve the future goals of the Iraqi people.”
