Worldwide echo – “Orgasm Pope” in court as early as February

Date:

A teacher at a primary school in the Lower Mühlviertel in Upper Austria was – as repeatedly reported – fired without notice because she gave sex advice online. Now she is fighting for her rights in court. The story about the ‘Orgasm Pope’ made headlines around the world.

This story excited all of Austria, but not only. The case of 47-year-old primary school teacher Monika Ring, who was fired without notice because she gave sex tips in her spare time as an ‘orgasm pope’, made headlines in German-speaking countries. On Monday, the German “Bild-Zeitung” dedicated a video article to the teacher, who taught at a primary school in the Mühlviertel. The “Tagespresse” – a satirical portal – (of course) also addressed the matter, with the headline “After termination of ‘Orgasm-Päpstin’: Upper Austria bans female orgasm.”

Is the instruction legal?
Ring and her lawyer obviously find the case less funny. They fight for women’s jobs. “I want to work as a teacher again. I currently have no income. It’s about my future,” says Ring. The case will go to trial on February 6. The first meeting, in which further steps will be discussed between the parties to the dispute and the judge, is coming up. “It will be interesting to see whether the two instructions that were allegedly given are legal,” says the lawyer of the now unemployed teacher Manfred Arthofer. Because, the lawyer suspects, the question is whether the school and the authorities can tell a teacher what they can post on their private accounts on Facebook, Instagram or TikTok.

By the way: There has been no immediate dismissal of a teacher in Upper Austria during the entire 2022 school year. Only one in 2023, and that was the self-proclaimed “Orgasm Pope” two days before Christmas…
