Following the fatal shots by a police officer at a suspected machete attacker in Bad Sauerbrunn (Burgenland), the Eisenstadt Public Prosecutor’s Office has submitted an application for a reconstruction of the crime.
On January 5, dramatic scenes took place in Burgenland: a wild family quarrel broke out in a house in Bad Sauerbrunn. The police went out and wanted to take action against the suspected perpetrator. The 55-year-old man from Germany then grabbed a machete and attacked his wife and then the police officers.
Fatal shots at machete man
A police officer was injured. The alleged perpetrator could not be calmed with words and pepper spray. Shots were fired and the attacker fell to the ground. The 55-year-old was fatally shot. This was also confirmed by the autopsy. The dead man’s 60-year-old wife later criticized the police’s actions in a Facebook post.
Further step in the investigation started
Now the crime must be reconstructed. It has not yet been announced when this will take place. This is the next step in the research process.
The written report on the autopsy is still pending, according to spokeswoman for the Public Prosecution Service Petra Bauer. “A reconstruction of the crime was requested and it is being carried out,” she further explained.
