Looking for a new home – woman hoarded 30 cats in a small space – rescued

Date:

Attentive authorities have seized dozens of velvet paws in an acute case of “animal hoarding” in the Wels-Land district. The four-legged friends were all traumatized and had parasites. Ten of them are now being cared for in the Freistadt animal shelter. The search for loving places for the rescued furry friends is already in full swing.

Thanks to consistent intervention by the authorities, the suffering of thirty cats finally came to an end. The animals were seized from a “Messi apartment” in the Wels-Land district. There they would have been kept packed together in a small space. The owner is probably suffering from animal hoarding syndrome. The living conditions were therefore catastrophic.

“These cats don’t seem to have experienced much good in their lives so far,” says Tamara Binder of the Freistadt animal shelter, where ten of the cats were temporarily housed: “They were all scared and quite exhausted when they arrived.”

Overcrowded animal shelters
The remaining twenty cats had to be distributed among various animal shelters in Upper Austria, as such a large number could seriously overwhelm one animal shelter. “We are chronically full,” says Harald Hofner from the Schabenreith animal paradise in Steinbach/Ziehberg. The Pfotenhilfe Lochen has also long reached its capacity limits, spokesperson Jürgen Stadler confirms.

In any case, the cats from Messi’s apartment would not be neutered or chipped and would not be in the best hygienic condition. “They had lice and mites. We have taken good care of them and now everyone is neutered, chipped and vaccinated,” says Binder.

Also inbreeding
Particularly loving places are now being sought for the eight-week to ten-year-old domestic cats (there may have been some inbreeding during keeping). “They have only been indoor cats so far and would be happy with a nice home, lots of love and peace.” However, the animals are only given away in pairs, unless the new owners already have a cat.
