He was too dazed to go to work – which is why the fatal argument between a 22-year-old with five previous convictions and his father (59) is said to have taken place at 2:30 am on Friday in Obernberg am Inn (Upper Austria). At least that’s what the son said during his interrogation on Saturday morning. Prosecutors say he confessed to stabbing his father.
Initially there was an argument because the son, who had become an apprentice, had taken psychotropic medications and was therefore very dizzy. The father then went upstairs and fired two shots into a wall on the first floor of the family home.
Stabbed with a kitchen knife
When the 59-year-old came down the stairs with the gun in his hand, the son said he stabbed him with a kitchen knife. The murder suspect admitted to police that he noticed his seriously injured father had left the house and then blacked out due to the pills. The father fled to a neighbor who called the police, but died in hospital at 4:40 am.
Nine stitches detected
“During the autopsy, a total of nine stab wounds were found in the abdomen, chest and back. The stab that opened a major artery was fatal,” says prosecutor Ebner: “The blood test must provide clarity as to whether, what and when the suspect took substances. So far there are only the statements of the suspect.” Addendum: “Blood photos don’t lie.”
Mother is questioned first
It is unclear whether the mother, who according to neighbors had a serious heart condition and was a lawyer and very socially involved, had also fled the house. She is currently being treated in hospital and cannot be interviewed until next week.
Just slept in the car
However, it is clear why the son was back in his parents’ home despite an entry ban issued on January 9. “He said he slept in the car for a night or two. Then his parents apparently took him back home. Living together seemed to go smoothly until the bloody crime,” Ebner said. The police imposed the entry ban after a family dispute.
