In an interview on krone.tv, the independent teachers’ union Bernd Kniefacz of the ÖLI-UG takes a look behind the scenes of the school: “Yes, we need teachers. After numerous layoffs last year, career changers needed to fill these gaps, but they underestimated the job.
Because teaching is a full-time job and cannot simply be done on the side. Many drop out because they are not prepared and have not been able to try out the job in advance. There is a lack of guidance and protection against burnout and nervous breakdowns. Kniefacz: “We need much more support, counselors in the emotional-social area. And in general, we have to ask ourselves: what are we actually training for? What is the purpose of our education system?”
There are numerous construction sites in the education system: for example, despite many infections in schools, ventilation systems in classrooms have still not been improved. Kniefacz: “Nothing happened.” And there is certainly a lack of administrative staff. There would be too much bureaucracy and paperwork.
Artificial intelligence tools are sometimes used in classes, but mobile phones are still often not used wisely by students. Kniefacz: “We need to teach and teach students how to use AI and mobile phones wisely. This is also necessary for their professional future.”
