Due to “recent killings,” Hezbollah attacked an army base in Israel

Date:

Hezbollah in Lebanon says it has attacked an army base in northern Israel. It is a response to “recent killings and repeated attacks on civilians” in Lebanon and Syria.

It was the second such attack on a base since the start of the war between the Israeli army and Hamas. The Israeli army is said to have killed Hamas deputy leader Saleh al-Arouri in Lebanon in early January. Hezbollah is linked to the Palestinian militant organization and has subsequently threatened Israel with retaliation. Shortly afterwards, the militia fired dozens of rockets at the Meron army base in northern Israel.

Israel: “Doesn’t want war with Hezbollah”
Now the second attack has been reported. Since the war between Israel and Hamas began on October 7, the situation has deteriorated across the region. Hezbollah now attacks Israel daily from southern Lebanon. The army then responded with more airstrikes on the militia’s infrastructure in Lebanon. “We do not want war, but we are ready to face any situation that may arise in the north,” Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said on Tuesday.

Nevertheless, several targeted attacks in the region have been attributed to the military in recent weeks. Most recently, the army was blamed for the attack on members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards in the Syrian capital Damascus. Hezbollah had previously reported the death of a senior commander.

Civilians among the dead
According to the AFP news agency, more than 200 people have been killed by Israeli shelling in southern Lebanon. 147 of them are said to have belonged to Hezbollah. Conversely, authorities in Israel reported the deaths of nine soldiers and six civilians in attacks from Lebanon.
