New Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico claimed on Tuesday that there was no war in Kiev. The conflict was local, he said – just one day before his first meeting with Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.
‘Do you seriously believe there is war in Kiev? You’re joking, please, I hope you don’t mean it. Go there and you will find that there is a normal life in the city, an absolutely normal life,” Robert Fico told journalists in eastern Slovakia on Tuesday. The conflict is not noticeable in Kiev, but is localized.
Just hours before his statement, rockets hit the Ukrainian capital. According to official information, twenty people were injured, including a 13-year-old boy. In total, since the start of the war in Kiev, air raid sirens have sounded 967 times and lasted 1,133 hours.
Wants to stop military aid
Fico, who has been in power since October, has announced a change of course in foreign policy. Among other things, he wants to stop military aid to the war-torn country (see video above). According to him, this will only prolong the war. Nevertheless, Fico wants to meet with Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal for the first time in the western Ukrainian city of Uzhorod on Wednesday. The city is located on the border of the two countries.
