The US state of Illinois is in shock after a series of bloody crimes. Eight bodies with gunshot wounds were found on Sunday and Monday. After escaping across the United States for hours, the suspected gunman fell into police net in Texas and took his own life.
The manhunt began after seven bodies were found at two different crime scenes in Joliet, about 70 kilometers southwest of metropolitan Chicago, on Monday afternoon alone (local time), all of them with gunshot wounds. Investigators believe the crimes are related and that the killer knew his victims.
On Sunday, a man was found with gunshot wounds at another location in the same neighborhood, who later died from his injuries. Detectives suspect that this crime was also committed by the same suspect.
Escape through the USA
After the second discovery, police searched for hours for the shooter. On Monday evening, police officers were able to apprehend the 23-year-old about an 18-hour drive away in Natalia, Texas. Joliet police say he shot himself during the confrontation with officers.
