It’s official now. As MD advanced months ago, the project for Madrid will have the Formula 1 GP It is more than advanced and this Tuesday came the official confirmation. Starting in 2026, the Spanish capital will have a race on a semi-urban circuit in the fairgrounds of IFEMA. The big unknown is knowing what the route will be and in the GP presentation this is revealed.
It will be a circuit that will have parts of the urban circuit with a combination of more semi-urban elements. It will run to the right on a route de 5,474 meters with a total of 20 curves. It is estimated that the lap time in current cars is from 1:32s.
Designed by the same designers who managed Zandvoort, it will not miss a banked curve like the one on the Dutch route in the Valdebebas area. It also goes under the M-40 until twice the Valdebebas tunnel first and then the IFEMA tunnel and the return will close at the fairgrounds.
The Madrid circuit will host the F1 GP starting in 2026 and with a contract until 2035. One of the strong points of having a race is the access for the public and according to the organizers themselves, up to 90% of the people will arrive by public transport.
On the other hand, as the president of IFEMA, José Vicente de los Mozos, commented during the official presentation, various complementary activities will be carried out at the GP for all audiences.
