They call themselves the ‘Scythians of Hungary’, do not consider the current government in Budapest as the legitimate leadership of the country and even doubt the legality of the constitution. Apparently the right-wing extremist group was also planning a violent uprising. As part of a nationwide raid, eight members – including the leadership – were temporarily arrested and numerous weapons and ammunition were also seized.
150 police officers were involved in the operation. Among the materials seized were fake IDs, diplomatic passports and documents denying the existence of the Hungarian state (see videos below). The Hungarian Constitutional Protection Agency had been investigating the ‘Scythians’ for months as they prepared for a violent change to the constitutional order.
According to the riot police investigation agency, a video appeared on social media in November announcing the creation of “Szkíta Magyarország” and its takeover – including the arrest of government members. It was also announced at the time that they had already started arming the “national, free, military forces” and that they wanted to disarm the police.
“Descendants” of the Scythians demand recognition as a minority
Nomadic peoples who lived in the grassy plains of Europe and Asia are called Scythians. They are widely regarded as the brave people of the East. Thousands of people who consider themselves descendants of the Scythians have tried in the past to be recognized as an official ethnic minority, but this was rejected by parliament.
