The Dutch royal couple Máxima and Willem-Alexander come by train to Styria. The focus of the visit at the end of June: the mobility of the future.
“Not amused” was the fact that the Styrian dailies got wind of the royal secret visit – and published details of the state visit of Queen Máxima and King Willem-Alexander in advance. On Friday evening, Alexander Van der Bellen’s office finally confirmed that the Dutch royal family will be in Vienna and Graz from 27 to 29 June. On Monday the two will be welcomed by “VdB” in the courtyard of the castle at 11.30 am, after which numerous appointments in the federal capital are on the agenda for two days.
A day in Styria
After all, Wednesday is reserved for Styria. And that’s a minor sensation – because the last official state visit by a royal couple dates back to 1969. 53 (!) years ago, Queen Elizabeth II and her (now deceased) husband Prince Philip gave guest appearances in Piber and the capital, where foie gras, reindeer meat, trout and ice bomb.
The Oranjes travel by train via the Semmering to Graz, where they are received at the train station in the morning by politicians and media. The visit to Murstadt will focus on future mobility, green and renewable energy sources, as there have been close links between Graz and Dutch companies specializing in these areas for years. First the princes are led to AVL, then to Elke Kahr in the town hall, to Hermann Schützenhöfer for lunch and then to the Murinsel for a bicycle presentation.
