A week ago there was drama in a municipal building in Vienna. A father of six died tragically. His widow and children now want to exchange apartments.
With his death, a 48-year-old Viennese plunged his widow and six children into an emotional abyss.
Since the children found out how their father died, life in the Schlingerhof apartment has become almost unbearable for all the survivors. As a result, Susanne B. requested help from social services. From there the widow was kindly referred to Wiener Wohnen, specifically to a lady from the living partners.
“I explained our situation and asked if an apartment exchange was possible,” said the desperate widow. But by pointing out “existing regulations,” the lady on the other end of the phone line coolly brushed the 38-year-old off. So no trace of living partners! The family simply has to wait another five (!) years for an exchange.
“Since the widow of the Wiener Wohnen employee has vividly described why this constant mental stress is barely bearable, there is now an urgent need for action in city politics,” said Vienna FPÖ leader Dominik Nepp.
Since he heard from Hans Jörg Schimanek about this family tragedy in the middle of the Floridsdorf community building, he has been campaigning for this cause at the Viennese old district council: “If mother and children have to pass the place in the apartment several times a day from where her husband and theirs “Father fell to death, later psychological problems are inevitable.”
And to housing councilor Kathrin Gaál (SPÖ), the clear message from the two FPÖ members: “Call your employees at Wiener Wohnen to order. And please help the deeply affected family to exchange their requested apartment.”
