After a pedestrian from Vienna discovered a body in the Neue Donau on Wednesday morning, the identity of the dead man remains unclear. According to investigators, an autopsy is still pending. However, the police have already ruled out a possible cause of death.
After a male body was found near the Donaustadt Bridge, state police headquarters were able to rule out foul play on Thursday. Investigators have yet to determine who the victim was.
A hiker discovered the man’s lifeless body around lunchtime on Wednesday and alerted emergency services. The witness described the incident in an interview with the “Krone”. “At first I thought it was a doll,” said the Viennese. Unfortunately, that was not the case: only a short time later the rescue team discovered the man’s death.
Not the first case this year
It is not the first case this year where a passerby comes across a body in the water. Recently, a father’s body part was fished out of the Marchfeld Canal by a fisherman. It involved a 45-year-old man from Hietzing. The man had been reported missing since November 15.
