The South Korean smartphone giant Samsung, which has just been replaced as market leader by Apple, wants to make up for lost ground with its new Android flagship Galaxy S24 (Plus or Ultra) and is putting everything on one card when it comes to marketing: artificial intelligence (AI ). A real added value? We tested the AI features – and discovered strange things about the device.
You can dictate texts for the novelty as a digital secretary, an AI interpreter translates into 14 languages, and Google offers text summarization and image editing tools in the cloud. However, there is a certain downside to the case, as the fine print on Samsung’s website states: “Galaxy AI features will be made available for free on supporting Samsung Galaxy devices until at least the end of 2025.” South Koreans confirm that the AI tools are also there. They want to make it available for free, but also keep the other option open. An uncertainty factor for such an expensive device that you actually want to provide software updates for seven years. And not the only one.
