New Year’s Eve fireworks – ‘Corrupt dealers encourage misuse of pyrotechnics’

Date:

There is a strict pyrotechnic law in Austria. Categories with a heavy explosive power should not be detonated without training. That is why many people receive fireworks from abroad, especially before New Year’s Eve.

Because many surrounding countries have different pyrotechnic laws, fireworks can be easily purchased there, but may not be imported into Austria. What makes matters worse are corrupt dealers who open the door to misuse of pyrotechnics, says Christoph Mayrhuber, fireworks expert for the Vienna police, in an interview with krone.tv.

Mayrhuber especially warns against incorrect use of fireworks. His tip: ‘Read the instructions for use, then follow them carefully and approach the matter with your mind.’ And: ‘Never ignite pyrotechnic objects by hand, but always place them on the ground.’
