Slovak authorities this Thursday charged attempted murder against the man arrested yesterday for the shooting of Prime Minister Robert Fico, who was immediately transferred to a hospital, where his condition is “stable, but serious”.
Police filed a report early today against the detainee, identified as Juraj Cintula, who faces a prison sentence of 25 years. Cintula is a 71-year-old writer, member of the Association of Slovak Writers and founder of a literary group.
According to information collected by the television network Markiza TV, the man acted in revenge in connection with the policies of the current government. The suspect He is said to have informed police several days earlier that he had planned the attackalthough he has denied that he intended to kill Fico, without authorities commenting on the case.
The country’s deputy prime minister, Tomas Taraba, had indicated hours earlier that Fico’s state “will survive” the attack. From the hospital they explained that he is stable, but in very serious condition.
