Vitoria-Gasteiz’s 2024 budgets are approved thanks to the PSE-EE and PNV pact with EH Bildu

The budgets passed with the positive votes of the PSE-EE and PNV and with the abstention of EH Bildu, while the PP and Elkarrekin Vitoria rejected, as planned, the municipal bills, which amount to 485.9 million euros.

The plenary session of the Vitoria City Council granted the approval on Tuesday Budgets for 2024 thanks to the agreement reached between the two partner parties of the municipal team, PSE-EE and PNV, which govern in a minority, with EH Bildu, the main opposition force.

The budgets have gone ahead with the positive votes of the PSE-EE and PNV and with the abstention from EH Bilduwhile the PP and Elkarrekin Vitoria, as planned, rejected the municipal bills, which amounts to 485.9 million euros.

Socialists and nationalists have 12 of the 27 councilors of the Vitorian council, so they needed the support of an opposition group to pass the bills, something that was possible after agreement with EH Bildu, with 7 councilors.

The amount agreed with EH Bildu amounts to six million euros for this year and another six million in commitment credits for the coming years, for a total of fifteen projects.

For example, an allocation of two million for community housing in the neighborhoods – where there is a waiting list of 214 people -; 850,000 euros for the rehabilitation of the municipal housing stock, another 850,000 euros to stimulate employment and the revitalization of the city or half a million for dining rooms for the elderly.

The budget situation of the city council is in stark contrast to that of the municipality Provincial Council of Álavaalso controlled in a minority by PNV and PSE-EE, where this was necessary expand budgets this year by not getting the support of the opposition.
