In India, a freight train traveled 70 kilometers without a driver on Sunday. The gravel-laden train had started operating independently at a railway station in northern India. He was finally stopped by wooden blocks on the tracks.
According to local media reports, the train had departed from a railway station in Jammu where it had stopped for a staff change. After the driver and his assistant got out, the train simply continued its inclined route. To prevent accidents, all level crossings on the route were closed.
Hurry to Punjab
The ghost train, loaded with gravel, had sped from the state of Jammu and Kashmir to Punjab at a speed of 100 kilometers per hour. There he was stopped after 70 kilometers with the help of wooden blocks on the tracks.

Investigation ordered
According to initial information, no one was injured in the incident. Users of online platforms often shared videos of the wanderings. How the train was able to travel without a driver so far is now being investigated. “We have ordered an investigation,” said a spokesperson for Northern Railways, the northern Indian regional railway.
The railway is India’s most important long-distance transport, carrying millions of passengers every day. The system is outdated and dilapidated, even though the government has already invested money in train stations and signaling systems.
