RK-2 in Ausserfern – Farce surrounding the location of the emergency medical helicopter continues

Date:

The ARA air rescue medical emergency helicopter RK-2 is supposed to take off from the heliport in Ehenbichl in the Tyrolean district of Reutte, but the community association does not dare to communicate this in writing. The ARA air rescue service feels bullied.

The non-profit organization ARA, which has operated the airport of the Reutte district hospital since 2005, is stuck between the seats. Due to an alleged noise problem at the location, the neighborhood association BKH Reutte, owner of the airport, no longer wants to renew the contract with the ARA. The RK-2 should take off from Ehenbichl in 2027.

Three letters not answered
Of course, ARA director Thomas Jank has no written confirmation of this – despite repeated requests. “We are literally left in the air by the neighborhood association,” says Jank angrily. No wonder, because the neighborhood association left three letters from ARA unanswered last year.

Invitation to the association meeting
In a letter dated April 5 to association chairman Hanspeter Wagner, the ARA asked the neighborhood association “to ensure that a good and sustainable solution is found for the (apparently still unresolved) location issue.” However, there was no answer. There was an invitation to a meeting of the association.

“Airplane noise in Ehenbichl has not increased”
“We wanted to show, among other things, that the number of operations remained stable and that aircraft noise did not increase,” says GF Jank. “Instead, Ehenbichler Mayor Winkler told us before the presentation that the RK-2 would end at the end of 2027.”

No written confirmation
Jank asked association chairman Wagner for written confirmation in an email – for reasons of legal certainty. Again there was no answer. Finally, he wrote another letter to Wagner on September 27, 2023. In it he informed him about five alternative locations for the RK-2 and asked for written confirmation of the ending in Ehenbichl. Answer? No!

Dedication to RK-2
Wagner now confessed to the “Krone” about the RK-2 in Ausserfern – but only as the local boss of Breitenwang. However, the ARA must communicate what it wants. This only makes director Jank shake his head.
