WEGA arrived – 7 shots: Major night alarm in the Karl-Marx-Hof

Date:

Frightening scenes took place on Saturday evening in Vienna’s Karl-Marx-Hof. Neighbors reported seven shots fired in Heiligenstadt and police arrived with a large, heavily armed contingent. The social building was searched twice!

“We couldn’t believe our eyes. As soon as we opened the door of the apartment, we were already looking down the barrel of an assault rifle,” said the still shocked residents of Vienna’s Karl-Marx-Hof. On Saturday night, residents were literally torn from their beds when seven shots ended the night prematurely.

Largely cordoned off
A short time later, a large police force arrived at the metropolis’s most famous social building. The area was cordoned off over a large area and passers-by were chased away. WEGA’s emergency unit, helicopters and special forces searched the area and the building was closely examined. Shortly afterwards, a dog walker reported seeing an unknown person with a weapon.

Hunt for phantoms and traces
“The phantom was in the bushes and aimed at officers,” according to the animal lover’s gruesome but also uncertain statements. Then the large-scale operation began again and every free square centimeter was secured with the help of dog squads. The operation was finally called off around 3am. State police said there was no sign of a possible murder weapon or the shooter.

Naturally, the uncertainty remains great the next day and the neighbors even start looking for clues themselves. “Of course you don’t feel safe, especially because you no longer receive information from the manager,” says neighbor Irene K.

In the meantime, the police are said to have closed the case again, but observant passers-by found several cartridges this morning. The investigation is ongoing…
