Bad news for commuters: there will be a mega lock on the Suburban Line S45 from 28 April-it will no longer be continuously. But that is not the only limitation that now comes to the Viennese.
The S-Bahn line S45, also known as Suburban Line, is one of the most busy railway lines. The highway is mainly visited by commuters. But now there are extensive maintenance work, the tracks and the course are being renewed and the substructure of the track infrastructure is being renovated.
In the first construction phase from Monday 28 April to Thursday 12 June, all trains are eliminated between the stations of Hernals and Handelskai. In the second phase, from Thursday 12 June to Monday 23 June, no trains in both directions cannot be managed in the Heiligenstadt-Handelskai section.
As a replacement for the unusual connections, the ÖBB will set up a rail replacement traffic by bus. Patience is required: the travel time can be extended by a maximum of 20 minutes. The ÖBB therefore recommends planning more time reserves. But that is not the only limitation in the city that is due to the public drivers.
S-Bahn Line and U4 limits all summer
Working for the S-Bahn-Wien upgrade continues. Between 29 June and 1 September 2025 there will be no trains due to the summer lock on the S-BAHN line between Pratersern and Floridsdorf, as in the summer of 2023 and 2024. A rail replacement traffic is also provided here.
The U4 is also blocked on time to start the summer vacation – again. In July and August, the section between Scotting ring and Friedensbrücke is on. The U4 cannot ride in this area while working. The Viennese lines offer the E4 line as a replacement traffic that runs from Nußdorf to the Scot Ring.
Retaillijn 18 is expected to ride only until September 2025 between U6 Burggasse, Stadthalle and Fasangasse and on Rennweg and Landstraße to Matthäusgasse. The replacement line 18th floats between Fasangasse and Heinrich-Drimmel-Platz.
In the summer, parts of the tracks must also be exchanged on the ring. Affected: Carinthian ring, university ring and schubertring. The ring lines are partially diverted. Alternatives: the U1, U2, U3 and the U4.
