While Austria is desperate for skilled workers in many sectors, one profession is enjoying increasing popularity: that of human energy specialists. Qualified health and nurse Jennifer Bucher from Eisenstadt also recently changed careers.
The current crises and upheavals in our society are affecting more and more people emotionally, because nothing seems stable and safe anymore. The daily external horror scenarios keep some people so occupied that only worries remain in their minds. The constant circling of thoughts affects the emotional world and increases fear, anger and powerlessness, so that one also feels physically weak, stressed, tense, exhausted or as if one is under power. To find their center again, more and more Austrians are turning to doctors, psychologists and masseurs, as well as specialists in the field of human energy.
Professional group is growing
While the Chamber of Commerce registered 18,732 traders in this professional sector nationally in the pre-Corona year 2019, this had already risen to 20,285 at the end of 2023. The largest increases occurred in Vienna (+1553), in Lower Austria (+429) and in Styria (+375). But in Burgenland there are now almost 130 more human energy specialists than five years ago.
“The vast majority of those who choose this profession are women. “Many of them previously worked in the social sector – for example as a nurse, assistant or teacher,” says Gabriele Schnödl (63), responsible chairman of the ‘Personal Service Providers’ department of the Burgenland Chamber of Commerce.
Holistic view
Jennifer Bucher (29) also recently opened a ‘holistic health practice’ in Eisenstadt. Previously, the Oberloisdorfer worked for eight years as a registered nurse at the Barmfühlen Brüder in various departments – including acute psychiatry, trauma surgery, internal medicine and the Covid department.
She was able to gain extensive knowledge of conventional medicine wherever she went. But gradually she noticed that there was less and less time in the hospital to “look at people holistically, that is to say as an inseparable unity of body, mind and soul”. It was precisely for this reason that she had started her training.
Activate self-healing powers
“To uphold this integrative approach, I focus not only on diseases and symptoms, but also on the healthy part, the psychological state, past traumatic experiences and a client’s needs. An optimistic, life-affirming attitude can demonstrably have a positive impact on any recovery process – whether it’s a simple cold, a broken bone or cancer. That is why I specifically try to activate the self-healing capacity of my clients and help them relax and find peace. Because relaxation strengthens the immune system,” says Bucher.
Complaints and their mental causes
Because everyone is unique, she treats complaints individually during a discreet initial consultation and then tries to find suitable treatment methods in consultation with the client. In addition to mental training and meditation, which can help resolve limiting beliefs, develop a positive self-image, regain inner strength and increase concentration, it also offers massages with singing bowls and healing stones, aromatic strokes with essential oils, Bach flower consultations, scar removal and balancing treatments of the so-called “Chakras”. That’s how they will be Energy centers located between the physical and subtle bodies.
“For example, shoulder or lower back pain can be the result of poor posture and insufficiently trained muscles, but can also arise from emotionally stressful life situations. I use a variety of methods to help my clients feel and feel more and pay attention to their needs and boundaries. Many don’t do that because they just function,” says Bucher.
Bucher does not see himself as a replacement for doctors or psychotherapists, but rather as a source of inspiration for more self-love. She also does not want to keep her customers dependent: “If I had done that, I would have missed my job.”
