An overtaking maneuver ended Friday with two people injured. An 85-year-old tried to overtake a truck with his car in St. Marienkirchen, Upper Austria, which resulted in a head-on collision with an oncoming vehicle. The driver (32) had to be freed from the wreckage of the accident by emergency services.
The accident happened around noon when an 85-year-old German was driving his car on the L512 from Suben towards Reichersberg. The man wanted to overtake a truck in the municipality of St. Marienkirchen near Schärding.

He collided head-on with the oncoming car of a 32-year-old from St. Marienkirchen. After the collision, the younger man ended up with his car in an adjacent forest and had to be extricated from his vehicle by emergency services.
Both drivers involved in the accident were taken to Schärding Hospital after initial treatment on site.
