One person was seriously injured in a fire in an apartment building in Vienna-Donaustadt on Saturday evening. Six other residents of the house – including three children – had to be taken to hospital, the fire brigade announced on Sunday.
The professional fire brigade fought the fire on Wehrbrücklstrasse with eight vehicles and 39 emergency services. The professional rescue team also took over emergency medical care with a special task force with 16 rescue teams.
Flames in ground floor apartment
The fire broke out after 9 p.m. for reasons that are still unclear in an apartment on the ground floor. When the alarmed fire brigade arrived, flames were coming from a window and the stairwell was full of smoke because the apartment door was open. At the time, one person was trapped in the apartment and was found lying on the floor by a respiratory protective team. The man was rescued and brought outside.

Two extinguishing lines have been installed to fight the fire. Some of the residents – including the roommate of the seriously injured person – had left the building on their own, while others were taken from their apartment by the fire brigade wearing respiratory protection due to the heavy smoke.
