There will be no sign of winter this coming week; temperatures will continue to rise. According to the experts at the Austrian Severe Weather Center, temperatures can rise to 18 degrees. But before that, a stormy westerly wind is blowing through Austria again. Vienna in particular is hit by the heavy gusts of wind. There are already warnings.
Severe weather warnings are currently in effect in Lower Austria, Vienna and Burgenland. A red warning level applies on Sunday. Dense clouds will pass through from Upper Austria to the north of Burgenland with the strong westerly wind and in the north there will also be a few drops of rain locally. The maximum values are between five degrees in the Mühlviertel and 15 degrees in the southern mountains from East Tyrol to Joglland in Eastern Styria.
Heavy showers Monday evening
The new week starts with a lot of cloudiness and especially from Upper Austria to Northern Burgenland with individual rain showers, which gradually decrease during the day. In these regions the sun hardly shows itself. However, in the south and west it remains dry, during the day it becomes looser and it becomes increasingly sunny.
In the north the wind from the west continues to blow stormy. “Heavy showers can be expected from Vienna to Steinfeld, especially on Monday evening and Monday morning,” said Nikolas Zimmermann, meteorologist at the Austrian Severe Weather Center. Temperatures can reach 16 degrees – 17 degrees are also possible around the Graz basin.
From Wednesday it will become slightly milder
The influence of high pressure will increase slightly on Tuesday, keeping it dry across the board with a friendly mix of sun and clouds. Early fog is expected only in isolated cases in the inner Alpine valleys and in the southern basins. The wind dies down a bit. With a maximum of 17 degrees – locally also 18 degrees – it will be slightly milder. The highest values are expected in the south of Lower Austria. It will also remain dry on Wednesday and the sun will shine occasionally.
“Don’t write off winter just yet”
From Thursday the chance of rain will only increase again. Temperatures will also drop slightly, but next weekend they are expected to remain at a high level for this time of year. “Although the temperatures next week will give you spring fever, don’t write off winter just yet,” Zimmermann warns. “During the second holiday period, the models generally indicate a return of winter in Central Europe.”
