Switzerland mobilizes – Confederates prepare for exercises in Allentsteig

Date:

International units are always guests at the military training area in Allentsteig, Lower Austria. Swiss troops will soon arrive for a major maneuver.

For the first time in twenty years, the globally respected Swiss military will hold a major exercise abroad. For this purpose, more than 1,000 soldiers will be transferred to the Waldviertel next year to practice “combined arms combat” in Allentsteig, the largest military training area on red-white-red federal territory. Corps commander Thomas Süssli announced this this weekend.

‘Largest army in the world’ needs space
Reason: There is simply no area in Switzerland large enough for such a maneuver, they say. Although serious attempts have long been made in our neighboring country to build similar facilities for training purposes in the cantons of Jura and St. Gallen, these plans have so far failed due to lack of financing. With a strength of 200,000 soldiers, the Swiss army is the largest army in the world by population; the Swiss were already guests in Lower Austria in the 1990s.

Also a big exercise in Wiener Neustadt
However, our domestic army is not only stationed in the “Far North”, but is also ubiquitous in Wiener Neustadt. This is of course mainly because the military academy here has a long tradition. From Monday, the military will be even more present than usual among all-time loyalists: from February 5 to 7, about 100 uniformed soldiers will take part in an anti-terrorist exercise in the city district. That is why traffic disruptions may occur here, they say.
