The infamous “Tanzmayr bend” on the B131 in Walding (Upper Austria) again claimed victims. On Monday morning, two cars collided head-on after a risky overtaking maneuver. The driver (59) of a VW station wagon was extremely lucky to be able to get out of his completely destroyed vehicle alive.
A 59-year-old from Alberndorf was driving his car on the B131 from Ottensheim towards Aschach around 6 a.m. on Monday. At the so-called ‘Tanzmayr bend’ – where several fatalities have already occurred – the driver may have overtaken a tanker despite the barrier there, the police said in a press release.
Thrown against truck
The driver overlooked the car of a 59-year-old driver from Feldkirchen an der Donau. A serious collision occurred, causing one of the vehicles – a VW station wagon – to be thrown into the heavy vehicle’s trailer and come to a stop in the middle of the road with serious damage. The driver miraculously survived.
The second car was also seriously damaged in the accident. The two drivers were taken to the Linz accident hospital with injuries of an unknown nature. The truck driver was uninjured. The B131 was closed in the vicinity of the accident location for approximately 90 minutes.
