After a knife attack on a 19-year-old in Amberggasse in Innsbruck a few weeks ago, police have now identified a suspect. Much was also known about the background of the crime: it was said to involve a drug deal.
As the “Krone” reported, the 19-year-old Moroccan was allegedly robbed by two unknown men on January 22. They took an unknown amount of money from him and fled. A short time later, the robbery victim noticed a stab wound in his stomach.
Facebook photos led to suspects
After an initial search was unsuccessful, the police started an investigation. Based on this and with the help of Facebook photos, the victim was able to ‘unequivocally identify’ a suspect, the driver explains.
This concerns a 26-year-old Somali who was arrested in Innsbruck on Tuesday. During interrogation, the suspect admitted that he had injured the 19-year-old with a knife. Earlier, an argument allegedly took place during a drug deal, during which the 19-year-old allegedly attacked the 26-year-old with pepper spray.
Suspect is now in jail
The suspected Somali was transferred to Innsbruck prison on Wednesday on the orders of the Innsbruck Public Prosecutor’s Office – on suspicion of deliberately causing serious bodily harm.
