The US House of Representatives has rejected a bill that would provide aid to Israel. The MPs justified this by saying that the aid was aimed exclusively at Israel and that funds for Ukraine, among others, were excluded.
250 politicians voted against the Republican bill and 180 voted for it. The criticism came from Democrats. “This goes nowhere and delays aid to our allies and the delivery of humanitarian aid,” said Rep. Rosa DeLauro, the top Democrat on the House Budget Committee. This would amount to approximately 17.6 billion dollars (approximately 16.4 billion euros).
Another aid package is being introduced
The Democratic-led Senate on Sunday introduced an aid package that includes money for U.S. border security and emergency aid for Ukraine, Israel and partners in the Indo-Pacific region.
The US government also criticized the Republicans’ bill. “The administration strongly opposes this proposal, which does nothing to secure the border, does not help the Ukrainian people defend themselves against Putin’s aggression, does not support the security of American synagogues, mosques and vulnerable houses of worship, and does not protect Palestinian citizens supports. , most of whom are women and children, are being denied humanitarian assistance,” the White House said (see video above). They called for voting for the Senate bill instead.
