It was extremely unfortunate: a 71-year-old woman from Linz hit the road divider while crossing with her walker, got stuck there and could no longer continue. Unfortunately, the driver of an incoming tram was unable to avoid the collision despite an emergency stop.
It must have been an awful few seconds when the woman realized her walker could no longer move forward!
The 71-year-old wanted to cross the tram tracks with her walker at a marked intersection on Ferdinand-Markl-Straße in Linz on Tuesday evening, shortly before 6 p.m.
The hurdle was insurmountable
After almost passing the rails, the accident happened: she hit the curb of the road divider with the front wheel of her walker and got stuck. A disastrous accident, because unfortunately for them a tram was also approaching at that moment.
Against windshield
Their driver (54) immediately applied emergency braking, but was unable to avoid the collision. The woman from Linz was hit by a car, thrown against the windshield and ended up on the road.
An emergency doctor treated the seriously injured woman on the spot. She was subsequently admitted to MedCampus III of the Kepler University Hospital Linz – her life is now out of danger. The Bim driver received a shock and had to be cared for by the crisis intervention team.
