Almost a year ago, explosives and dozens of weapons, some of which were banned, were found in a Carinthian hamster house. On Thursday, three seniors and a young roommate sat on the dock in Klagenfurt – little was left of the accusations surrounding the fear of terrorism and bomb making, but many questions remained unanswered!
What does a shared apartment consisting of three seniors and a young Styrian do with 1.5 kilograms of explosives, 20 detonators and dozens of weapons, including camouflaged swords, war materials and fully automatic rifles?
“We had some stuff on hand to shoot the rats,” one of the suspects explains seriously. “You know how it is with rats!” Judge Christian Liebhauser-Karl looks a bit surprised: “No, I have little experience with that.”
The trial at the Klagenfurt Regional Court remains strange: Prosecutor Johanna Schun has accused the person of preparing a bomb attack. However, neither the weapons technology expert nor the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, which has not dealt with the case at all, confirm this: “The case was not a problem for us, because from our point of view there was no threat to the state,” says the interim head of the Carinthian LSE – this has been the case since the beginning of this year, yes, State Office for State Security and Combating Extremism – after strong urging from the judge.
Only suspended prison sentences
Little is left of the monster discovery in Kleindiex near Ruden: the possession of explosives and weapons earns the seniors and their young roommate suspended sentences of nine and twelve months, which are also accepted by the lawyers. However, it’s worth wondering why, despite best efforts, it didn’t finally become clear what the quartet was really up to on their hoarder farm and where the TNT and weapons actually came from!
