Within a day, 100,710 infections with fever symptoms and one more death were reported in North Korea. The number of officially confirmed deaths thus rises to 70. It is difficult to estimate how many of the infections are actually caused by the corona virus.
Japan’s Kyodo news agency, citing people from Beijing familiar with the case, said North Korea lifted restrictions on Sunday to contain the outbreak.
In the second week of May, North Korea officially confirmed the first corona outbreak since the pandemic began more than two years ago and ordered a nationwide lockdown. Since then, concerns have grown over an uncontrolled outbreak amid a lack of vaccines and insufficient medical supplies. The government in Pyongyang has not responded to aid offers from South Korea and the United States.
