The accident happened around 7 a.m. The 20-year-old was driving his car on the B179 from the Fernpass towards Nassereith. “In the vicinity of the bypass tunnel he ended up in the opposite lane in a long right bend before the See-Eck tunnel,” the police said. The oncoming tractor-trailer tried to swerve to the left, but was unable to avoid the almost head-on collision.

The 20-year-old was slightly trapped in the crash and suffered serious leg injuries. After initial treatment, he was flown by helicopter to Zams Hospital. Meanwhile, the 60-year-old driver of the truck suffered a minor injury to his chest. He was taken to Zam Hospital by ambulance. There was serious damage to both vehicles. The accident site had to be completely closed until 9 a.m.
